10 Best Villainous Voice Actors In The DC Animated Universe
1. Mark Hamill - The Joker
The Joker is without a doubt Batman's truest archenemy and rival. There had been many portrayals of the Joker before. Hamill, however, took this voice and absolutely owned it.
Hamill - divesting from the heroic Jedi Master we all knew and loved - gave the Joker a distinctive manic voice that was equal parts funny and terrifying. In fact, many of the funniest moments in the DCAU were courtesy of the Joker - puns, ridiculous schemes, slow burns, fourth wall breaks, and Looney Tunes-style outbursts of anger. His exchanges with Harley were some of the best banter in any DCAU show. No two Joker laughs were the same, and Hamill could create more butterflies in a viewer's stomach with a cackle than most characters could through reams of dialogue.
As a result of his stellar voicework and how he played off both Sorkin and Conroy, Hamill's Joker became an early fan favourite, and he's still replicating the voice almost 30 years later in animated movies and video games. He's also not above poking fun at his best known animated character, as witnessed by his frequent appearances on shows like Robot Chicken.
Through his laughter, Hamill created a once-in-a-lifetime icon that has become a benchmark by which other portrayals are measured. For children of the nineties and even beyond, Hamill IS the Joker.
