8. Adrienne Barbeau - Catwoman

Lex Luthor Justice League Unlimited
Warner Bros.

When Batman: The Animated Series began, whoever was putting on the mask and pointy ears of Catwoman was going to have an uphill climb. After all, it's not easy to take on the legacy of Eartha Kitt, Julie Newmar, or Michelle Pfeiffer. However, Adrienne Barbeau managed to not only hold her own but made the animated Catwoman something entirely new, more in line with the comics of the time.

Barbeau's Selina Kyle sexy and attractive, as well as a world-class thief, athletic gymnast, and excellent martial artist. She also portrayed her as a confident, knowledgeable and dangerous equal to Batman, one who would flirtatiously purr into his cowl just before shoving him off a building, engaging him in a battle across the rooftops of Gotham, or breaking into an exhibit of cat-related valuables.

Barbeau brought modern-day sensibilities to one of Batman's oldest foes, leaving behind the idea of a female comic character who was defined solely by the men she surrounded herself with.
