10 Best Villainous Voice Actors In The DC Animated Universe

3. Michael Ansara - Mister Freeze

Lex Luthor Justice League Unlimited
Warner Bros

In Mister Freeze, Michael Ansara took a character who had previously been a joke member of Batman's rogues gallery and brought him to life as a tortured soul doomed through greed and arrogance to life inside an armoured suit.

Victor Fries was a scientist specializing in cryogenics. More than that, however, he was a desperate husband who would do anything to save his beloved wife Nora, who was dying from a rare disease. A lab accident caused by his company's corrupt owner turned him into the frozen, soulless Mister Freeze. Ansara's icy monotone delivery created a character who was almost impossible for Batman to relate to on a human level, yet also one that the Dark Knight realized was not truly a villain of his own accord.

Ansara helped create a portrayal who was both a deadly threat and an object of sympathy, making you understand why he took the actions he did. His monologue at the end of Heart of Ice is as touching a scene as you'll get in the DCAU

Ansara was another voice actor who had a hand in creating a brand new character in the DC world, as his version of Mr Freeze was so compelling and iconic that the character was retconned in the comics to have the DCAU origin. His fantastic voice work so early in BTAS was a portent of things to come.
