10 Big Differences Between New And Classic Doctor Who

10. Mega Money

The most noticeable difference between the Classic and Nu Series is the budget. Doctor Who has now taken its place as a multi-million pound prestige production with sequences to rival its competitors across the pond. Imagine the producers of the 60s, 70s and 80s being asked to come up with a fleet of Daleks charging through the clouds over London, or an intricately-rendered dogfight in the depths of space? With today's show, it's largely a case of "if you dream it, we can achieve it". Location shooting overseas is undertaken as a matter of course. In the 80s, the Lanzarote trip for Planet of Fire was exotic. For Series 8, they just hopped over there to use it as a lunar setting... and only wound up making it look like a quarry at night, anyway! This kind of extravagance would make former producer John Nathan-Turner's eyes pop out of his head.
