10 Big Film Stars Who Appeared In Doctor Who

8. Michael Gambon

Doctor Who may be one of the best loved TV series of the 21st Century, but when it comes to film series, that honour surely goes to Harry Potter. As if Albus Dumbledore wasn't enough for Michael Gambon, he is just one actor who can now claim to have appeared in both, after his starring role of Kazran Sardick in the Dickens inspired 2010 Christmas Special. Although these are two roles which may be highly popular amongst younger viewers, it is likely the older viewers who will recognise Gambon from the majority of his other performances, not least because many would be from before Doctor Who's key demographic was born. The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover was made back in 1989, and his appearance opposite Robin Williams in Toys came just three years later. Of those films that were made within even the last ten years, it is also hard to imagine many youngsters sitting down to enjoy the violent pre-Bond Daniel Craig film Layer Cake, or even the rather philosophical Book Of Eli. He did lend his distinctive voice to the animated Fantastic Mr. Fox as well though, so it's not as though there's nothing at all the kids won't have seen.
