10 Biggest Doctor Who Missed Opportunities

2. Wasting Paul McGann

This man was in the right place at the wrong time. Paul McGann had the potential to play a 10/10 Doctor, but was stuck in a 5/10 movie.

If his extensive Big Finish archive and his NuWho cameos are anything to go by, we were robbed of a potential golden era. In many ways, McGann is a quintessential Doctor, and would've served as the perfect bridge between classic and modern Who: an Edwardian gentleman, a dashing hero, or a broken man trying not to lose his way, depending on whereabouts in his timeline you’re dropping in.

That mooted American series would've hopefully been great despite the TV movie's shortcomings, but are you seriously telling us that we couldn't have had one special, a three-part miniseries, or a proper multi-Doctor story in the decades since?

We’re still holding out hope that there’s room for an Eighth Doctor spinoff in RTD’s Whoniverse. Paul McGann may be the man who never ages, but every year that passes is a year where that cruel mistress known as time might finally catch up with him.
