10 Biggest Doctor Who Missed Opportunities

3. No Master For Eleven

Every main incarnation of the Doctor has faced off against their arch-nemesis since the Master's creation during the Third Doctor's era - except for two of them.

Eccleston gets a pass on account of his departure after just one series, as we can assume that this might've happened if he'd stayed longer. That leaves just one Doctor who never got to go toe-to-toe with the Master: Matt Smith. You know, the incarnation with the most individual stories of any NuWho Doctor. It wasn't like the Moff was short on time!

Could we not have squeezed in at least one appearance in place of Series 6 and Series 7's lacklustre finales? If we swapped out The Great Intelligence with the Master, would Series 7's plot have even changed that much? Jumping into the Doctor's timestream seems like the sort of spiteful and ludicrous thing the Master would do, and we could've even kept Richard E. Grant in the role and let the man actually be his oddball self, instead of a charisma vacuum.

This will be a void that will forever be empty, like an interpretation of Sherlock Holmes without a Moriarty. It's just wrong.
