10 Biggest Doctor Who 'What Ifs'

9. What If The Tenth Doctor Regenerated In Journey's End?

One can't deny that the cliff-hanger to The Stolen Earth still stands as one of the greatest WTF moments on Doctor Who. Disappointingly, the entire scenario was just a rouse to get bums on seats the following week. Dick move Russell T Davies.

Basically we all thought that he'd committed a ballsy act. Tragically, he fell through on the promise of a surprise regeneration, and copped out within the first few seconds of Journey's End. So wouldn't it have been amazing had Russell T Davies actually gone through with recasting The Doctor during the Series 4 finale.

Sure, it would've been annoying on the part of David Tennant. I mean, The Stolen Earth isn't exactly a swansong. He'd literally go out like a bitch, as he clumsily ran towards Rose like a teenager in love, failing to remember that there's literally a Dalek invasion going on. Oh, wait, he's been shot. Had he then died, essentially the Tenth Doctor would've perished before he'd completed his end goal of saving the day, becoming a first for Doctor Who; having a Doctor go out in the midst of battle.

Again, a crap conclusion for David Tennant, but a fascinating advancement of the ongoing plot, especially with the notion of The Doctor caught in the middle of post-regeneration whilst trying to prevent realities destruction. At the very least the Tenth Doctor got to see Rose one last time (thus cheering him up after his long slump of depression) even if it did cost him his life. That and it would've cured his vanity issues.
