10 Biggest Feuds In Doctor Who History

3. Janet Fielding V John Nathan Turner

Doctor Who Tegan
BBC

Janet Fielding played the first non-English companion to join the TARDIS gang. She debuted alongside Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor, though is best known as a companion of Peter Davison's Fifth.

She and John Nathan Turner were at odds almost immediately, as she criticised the portrayal of Tegan as a mild-manner, anti-feminist character. She particularly hated the costumes that Nathan Turner decreed for her, with an Air Stewardess outfit for her first season, with only skimpy dresses and skirts after that.

She said that he also was brutally honest about the reason for her role existing. She was there for the dads to have something to look at. She retorted that she was on the show for the young women of the audience to have a role model to identify with.

In the end, she lamented that she was trapped in a situation where she wanted to bring something new and inventive to the role but thanks to Nathan Turner and other producers like him, she was there to simply be a screamer and nothing more.
