10 Biggest Secrets Revealed In Star Trek Novels

4. How Did The Stargazer Survive - The Buried Age

In The Battle, audiences got their first official glimpse of the USS Stargazer, Captain Picard's first command. While there had been a model of the ship in the Ready Room, that technically was simply the same class of vessel, with a different registry. That one is open to argument! However, one thing that is certain is that Picard was absolutely shocked to see his old ship in one piece.

The battle with the Ferengi, nine years prior to the episode, was detailed in Christopher L. Bennett's novel, The Buried Age. First, while Picard never truly knew what preempted the attack that crippled his ship, the novel revealed that the Ferengi believed Starfleet was infringing on their territory, while also believing them to be insane for not using a currency based economic system.

The Stargazer was heavily damaged in the assault and, when Picard gave the order to abandon ship, it was headed for a planetary body. In a stroke of pure chance, it bounced off the atmosphere of the gas giant, leaving it adrift. Daimon Bok then arrived, secured the Stargazer in a tractor beam, and began plotting his revenge for the death of his son.
