10 Biggest Secrets Revealed In Star Trek Novels

Elim Garak is easily one of the most enigmatic characters that Star Trek has ever introduced. From his first episode, Past Prologue, he was immediately raising more questions than he ever answered. It seemed that with each story, more and more of his life contradicted the rest. This was no accident, as the writers always wanted him to be a little dangerous, and secretive.

However, Andrew J. Robinson then had to personify this person, which was no mean feat. He started to keep a sort of bible, writing in a backstory and a set of motivations for the man. Once the show wrapped, this bible was adapted into a novel, which became A Stitch In Time.

It chronicles Garak's backstory, his training in the Obsidian Order, and his first encounters with Dukat. It also goes a little deeper into his time on the station and the fallout from the Dominion War. The biggest reveal was that he was responsible for the death of Dukat's father, a fact that had been alluded to in the series but only confirmed here. There was very good reason for Cardassia's most famous despot to hate him.
