One of the most frequently discussed yet never seen events in Star Trek’s history is the Romulan attack on the Klingon world of Khitomer. The name became well-known as the location of the peace talks between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, though it would come to be known for a much darker reason in the years that followed.

Worf, his mother and his father, Mogh, travelled to the planet while he was still a child. Worf’s younger brother, Kurn, remained on the homeworld as he was deemed too young to make the trip. This saved the boy’s life. Ja’rod, the father of Duras, conspired with the Romulan Empire to betray his own people. This resulted in a massive, devastating attack on Khitomer by the Romulans. Ja’rod paid for his treachery with his life, dying in the flames of the colony. However, he was far from the only casualty.

Mogh, the father of Worf and Kurn, was also killed, along with the rest of his house, though Worf survived. He would later be blamed for the attack, forcing his son to take on the Klingon High Council to clear his name, which even involved a civil war before the truth was finally known.
