10. What Happened To Ro Laren

It's not very often that Star Trek seemingly 'forgets' about a character but fans of Ensign Ro Laren would be forgiven for assuming producers had just memory-holed her after Season 7 of The Next Generation. After joining the Enterprise and upsetting virtually every colleague on it, she finally completed a harrowing personal arc only to then jack it all in and defect to the Marquis.

With the next impending series, Deep Space Nine, focussing heavily on the Bajoran/Cardassian revolution and Ensign Ro being tailor-made for a role in that, it stunned everybody that she simply never appeared again. Even when Voyager's opening few seasons focussed heavily on the Marquis, she was still nowhere to be seen.

From a real-life standpoint, actor Michelle Forbes had simply turned down a major role on DS9 (the part then becoming the basis for Kira Nerys) and never returned to the show, but in terms of the narrative, she'd still be out there. Given her feelings towards the Cardassians, her movements during the war with the Dominion would have been fascinating and something the franchise could possibly hint at in Picard.
