10 Biggest Wasted Opportunities In Game Of Thrones
5. Lady Stoneheart
Looking back, you have say that Lady Stoneheart is one of the strangest changes from the book.
Lady Stoneheart is the resurrected body of Catelyn Stark, found in the river by the Twins after the Red Wedding. The Brotherhood Without Banners stumble upon her in the books, with Beric Dondarrian passing his power to return from the dead onto her.
Bloated by the river and decomposition, Catelyn does not come back whole. She speaks through the gaping wound in her neck with a low, guttural drawl, and thinks only of vengeance.
Despite the relationship between Arya and The Hound, it might have been much more powerful to have Cat be the one to push Arya away from vengeance and solidify the idea of ‘the pack survives’.
The reason behind her staying on the sidelines was not wanting to bring Michelle Fairley back for such a small role. Several characters got bigger screen roles than their book counterpart (Beric, for starters), so they could have written a bigger role if they really wanted her; fans certainly did.
The worst part is that in tying up a loose end of Lady Stoneheart, they waste another character arc of great potential too, to be addressed later.
