10 Biggest Wasted Opportunities In Game Of Thrones

6. The Direwolves

The direwolves are a quintessential part of Game Of Thrones’ world building and iconography. They’re such a crucial part of what makes the stories so special, yet the show has often neglected them.

Addressing each wolf, Shaggydog gets a bit of a pass as Rickon isn’t ever involved very much. Bran’s wolf, Summer, dies holding the door with Hodor, signifying that summer is over and winter is here. Lady, too, has little potential, as Ned kills her at the King’s request in Season 1.

Next, Nymeria. Though we didn’t get to fully see the fabled wolf pack in action as suggested in the books, Arya did at least get closure.

It’s the next two which really let the side down though. Robb is known as the Young Wolf, mainly due to his general prowess in battle but also because of his unconfirmed ability to warg while fighting. Despite Robb’s nickname, Grey Wind gets the least screen time.

Finally, Ghost. He starts well but as the plot sped up he faded into the background. We see that he’s injured after The Long Night, but never how he actually got injured. The lack of direwolf fighting is a big loss for the show.
