10 Bizarre Star Trek Theories (That Might Be True)

3. The Federation Are Actually A Time-Travelling Fascist Dictatorship

So this one isn't much fun to think about and we advise that you don't dwell on it all that much. The theory has appeared on other fan sites and a few other listicles across the internet but doesn't hold much love with the fans (for obvious reasons). Essentially, the theory is as follows. While the United Federation of Planets seems like a utopian ideal society, a gentle blending of cultures and ideas, it is in fact, a military dictatorship.

Many of our heroic characters within the shows are shown disobeying orders from their higher-ups because they believe them to be somewhat against the best interests. Think of the experiments on The Pegasus, for example. Perhaps the Federation isn't the neat, friendly organisation that it presents itself, once the velvet glove of friendship has been extended to a planet, they soon find that there's an iron fist beneath it.

Most of Starfleet is human, despite the fact that Starfleet is entirely responsible for the protection and knowledge gathering of the Federation. So despite Earth just being one member planet, humanity seems to have an undue influence over all other species within. The future Federation (in the Voyager episodes Future's End and Relativity) certainly has access to time travel technology. What better way to ensure your rule than to go back in time and quell any threat presented to your vast, expansive empire?

Kind of a downer, that one.

Still bitter that Star Trek Enterprise got canned and almost old enough to angrily tell the kids to 'Get Off My Lawn!'
