6. The Nightside Series By Simon R Green
mobilism.orgThe Nightside series is an urban fantasy set in the Nightside, a secret part of London inhabited by gods, demons and things even more powerful than that, where it is always 3 A.M. It's the story of John Taylor, a private investigator and Nightside resident, who is the resident problem solver and the closest thing to a good guy the Nightside would stand for. Whilst Taylor himself is a send up of the private investigator trope, the money here is the setting. The Nightside is a place where literally anything can happen, including time travel, access to alternative dimensions and magic drugs that temporarily revert the user to a neanderthal. The books themselves have wildly imaginative plots: in one book, Taylor has to stand against The Walking Man, an agent of God that no force can stop and in another, he has to safeguard Excalibur for an evil version of Merlin from an alternative dimension who embraced the fact that he was the son of Satan. Plenty of material to draw from then and the cast of characters that make up the Nightside would make for compelling viewing. For the character of John Taylor himself, we'd have Guy Pierce, he'd have no problem pulling off the bad guy gone straight needed for Taylor.
