10 Brilliantly Simple Opening Credits In Awesome TV Shows

4. The Leftovers Season 2

The Leftovers’ first season opened with a somewhat over the top title sequence: a panoramic series of moving oil-paintings with an apocalyptic, Biblical tone that didn’t really suit the show’s more meditative, small-town pace. The show may be about 2% of the world's population mysteriously disappearing, but it's less concerned with widescale social upheaval than the quiet tragedies left in the rapture's wake.

The second season's opening credits offer much simpler, haunting visuals; the foreboding strings are replaced by a gently-strummed folk ballad about loss and acceptance ("Let the Mystery Be" by Iris Dement), matched with poignant images of everyday vanishing. From parents on beaches to children on trampolines, these vignettes of disappearance suggest tiny, irreparable moments of sorrow.
