5. The Anointed One
Mid-way through Buffy The Vampire Slayer's first season, Giles discovers a prophecy stating that a recent bus accident will lead to the rise of The Anointed One, a powerful vampire destined to guide Buffy into Hell to face her death at the hands of The Master.
After visiting the local morgue, Buffy stakes the Vamp that Giles believes to be The Anointed One, and everyone relaxes, for a while. Unfortunately, they made a mistake. The Anointed One is a child, Colin, and The Master’s followers have already whisked the newly turned boy away to their lair.
Colin later appears to fulfil his destiny of leading Buffy to The Master, and becomes the leader of The Master’s remaining followers after his death. However, this soon changes after the arrival of Spike.
Though feigning loyalty at first, Spike soon kills Colin by forcing him into sunlight. According to creator Joss Whedon, the character of The Anointed One didn’t quite work out, and the show was better without him.
