10 Cancelled Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series That Deserved Better
1. Firefly
The space opera most missed by fans, and topping the lists for TV series cancelled too soon, Firefly is the poster child of great shows that deserved better, with even its eventual additions.
Nearly cancelled before it even got off the ground, sabotaged by the network with episodes aired out of order, Firefly was cancelled quickly, despite its loyal fanbase. So great was its cultural impact that it found life in multiple media such as novels and its film followup, Serenity, and is still a staple at conventions to this day.
Partially inspired by stories of the wild west and reminiscent of shows such as the critically acclaimed anime Cowboy Bebop, Firefly was a space Western chronicling a likeable crew of outlaws with complex backstories and motivations, living in a world where the US and China formed an Alliance that ends up governing the star system.
The Serenity's crew, who ran jobs like smuggling and cargo runs, encountered many dangers, mainly from the cannibalistic roaming humans called Reavers.
With fantastic world-building and a beloved cast, there's a reason Firefly still resonates with fans today. And for how it was treated even during airing, it deserved - deserves - so much better.
