10 Cancelled Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series That Deserved Better

All of these shows were still at their peak when they were pulled, and fans are still reeling from the loss.

Raising the stakes for what Marvel's properties could achieve in terms of darker themes, with mature content a stark contrast from their largely PG-13 film properties, Marvel's Netflix shows were fascinatingly grounded for what were still firmly entrenched in a world of superheroes. Magic and science fiction are part of this world, but do not shape it, with a modern MCU New York still feeling familiar to your average audience.

Some titles, like Jessica Jones and The Punisher, were effective for those who weren't as eager for the more fantastical leanings of The Iron Fist or the somewhat campier costumed vigilantism of Daredevil. Each show had their own flavour and colour schemes - like Luke Cage's uniquely Harlem musical profiles - that, in many ways, worked for a team-up in Defenders.

It was a shame, but not a surprise, to see them get pulled as Disney began expanding to streaming. Hope holds out that these characters will return, but whether they'll retain the brutal, honest darkness they had on Netflix remains to be seen.
