A side-splittingly hilarious musical series that unsurprisingly featured music by Alan Menken (who was the man behind most of Disney Renaissance era music), Galavant was a campy, ridiculous, and joyful series about an arrogant fantasy hero named Galavant, who is roped into helping a princess named Isabela to save her parents from the same evil king that took the love of his life.
The show isn't actually that straightforward, though, with the evil king turning out more pathetic and likeable than the series first implies, and Galavant's love turning out competent, dangerous, and mercilessly self-serving and more evil than he ever was.
With a completely likeable cast, catchy and hilarious songs in every episode, anachronistic humour mixed with many medieval fantasy tropes, and even fairly frequent self-aware jokes about their own impending cancellation and/or series renewal, this show deserved way more attention than it got.
It leans into its Spamalot levels of ridiculousness, and it's clear that the cast is having the time of their lives, with song and dance numbers every so often allowing them to express it. One hopes it finds new life on TV or onstage, with how unique and high quality it was.
