10 Cancelled Sci-Fi/Fantasy Series That Deserved Better
6. Almost Human
An intriguing sci-fi series about androids gaining sentience, and another of the popular buddy copy genre, Almost Human was a visually and conceptually stunning series that sadly couldn't get past one season, despite gaining a decent following.
Recently, a video game, Detroit Become Human, came out with a similar premise, with a unique, possibly sentient android getting partnered with an older, foul-tempered, android-hating cop partner with whom he starts forming a bond.
Almost Human presented a fascinating future world revolving around newer technologies and androids as part of everyday life, with age-old problems like drug addiction, prejudice, terrorism, and newer issues arising unique to androids. The show also set up some fantastic mysteries behind the android character, Dorian's past, and how he relates to a rash of new cases he and his human partner John Kennex need to investigate.
The dynamic between John and Dorian is the best part of the show, however, with Dorian being disobedient and full of sass, completely unlike other androids, and John unable to help liking him for being unusually human-like while also being disturbed and intrigued by Dorian's strange quirks. The two have fantastic chemistry, and for their banter alone, this show deserves another chance.
