4. Godzilla: The Series

In 1998, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich managed to take Godzilla, King of Monsters, and make a film loathed by critics and viewers all over the world. Godzilla: The Series, produced by the same studio that made Men in Black: The Series, seems like something to be consigned to the dustbin of history like its cinematic forbearer. But Godzilla: The Series is superior to the film in every way: it kept the design of Godzilla (one of the few good things from the film) but gave him the ability to breathe fire, improved the writing, and gave Godzilla a wide range of monsters to fight. With an oddly long run for a two season show from the US (40 episodes), Godzilla: The Series was ultimately a victim of being in great company on the Fox Kids line up in 1998-2000. Between timeslot changes due to Digimon and other shows and a lack of repeats, the show never really had a chance to build up an established fan base large enough to make the release of the entire series on DVD practical (nine episodes were released on DVD though). With a new Godzilla film in the works and Pacific Rim brining back giant monsters as bad guys, now would be a great time to bring out Godzilla: The Series on Blu-Ray, if only to say that at least something good came out of the last American production.
