10 Cartoons That Deserve Blu-Ray Releases

5. Men in Black: The Series

Men in Black season 4 cast Back in the late €˜90s, there was a brief resurgence in animated series of live action movies and TV shows. One of the shows that spearheaded that movement was Men in Black: The Series, which followed Agents J and K as they protected Earth from alien threats. Unlike some other shows based on other properties, this series went out of its way to explain the differences between the film and the show (J looking different, K not being retired, and L being blonde instead of a brunette): Hollywood sometimes finds out about MiB and makes a movie about them, with some creative liberties in the writing. Another positive of the series was its story arcs. The Bugs from the first MiB movie returned as recurring bad guys, K€™s mentor and arch-nemesis Alpha (a man seeking immortality by sticking alien body parts inside of him), and L€™s frustration at being stuck as a lab tech all helped raise the show above the usual kids fair that animation usually gets boxed into. That, combined with a surprising voice cast that included Jennifer Lien (Star Trek: Voyager€™s Kes), Tony Shalhoub as Jeebs (for a few episodes), David Warner, Vincent D€™Onofrio, and Adam Baldwin, kept the show on the air for four years. On May 11, 2012, season 1 was released on DVD, marking the only physical release of this show in the US. While it eventually wound up on Canadian Netflix after a long run on The Hub, a Blu-Ray release would certainly make up for the existence of Men in Black II.
