3. Megas XLR

In 2004, Cartoon Network premiered a show that homaged and parodied giant robot shows, MTV, and the state of New Jersey. That show was Megas XLR, the story of two Jersey slackers (Coop and Jaime) who found a giant robot from the future, customized it, and fought aliens and monsters with their female costar (Kiva). Featuring a rather surprising cast of guest stars, including Michael Dorn and Bruce Campbell, Megas was chock full of references to shows anime and general scifi fans were familiar with, including the Wave Motion Gun from Starblazers/Space Battleship Yamato, the voice cast (pulled from Cowboy Bebop), and the finale, a send-up of Star Treks Mirror Universe filled with mechs inspired by the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise. Unfortunately, the show didnt really hit the demographic Cartoon Network was aiming for, skewing towards older teens and adults than young kids, resulting in the shows cancellation in 2005. Between then and now, Cartoon Network got rid of the rights as a tax write off. While the shows creators are trying to regain the rights, there are signs that a Megas revival game, developed in collaboration with Valve, might in the works. While you can get the show off of iTunes and Xbox Live Marketplace, having a remastered Blu-Ray set of something thats so obviously a labor of love feels like a better way to give the creative staff the money they deserve.
