10 Celebrity Guests Who Should've Stayed In South Park
9. Sinéad O'Connor
Episode(s) appeared in: Taming Strange (Season 17, Episode 5)
To parody Miley Cyrus’ transition from a Disney child star to asserting her maturity with sexualised and exhibitionist stunts, Foofa from Yo Gabba Gabba! was used as a stand-in. Foofa concluded she needed to start playing to older audiences and must be edgier and sexier to do so. Mocking the singer’s real-life unsolicited advice to Cyrus, Foofa’s castmates brought Sinéad O'Connor to talk to Foofa. O’Connor implored Foofa not to “sell [her] strange to those corporate b*****ds” and joined the rest of the Yo Gabba Gabba! cast in singing a song entitled Don’t Show Your Strange on TV.
In the age of cancel culture, O’Connor’s controversial photo tearing antics, once shocking, is now the perfect parody. Also, South Park O’Connor would be the perfect antagonist for President Garrison. After converting to Islam, O’Connor used Twitter to refer to non-Muslims as “disgusting” and expressed that she no longer wished to spend time with “white people”. Trey and Matt have proven adept at both questioning Islam and mocking celebrities who hijack belief systems and movements for clout. Fun Fact: O’Connor even managed to provoke Prince into a fist fight.
