10 Characters Who Should Recur On The Flash TV Series

7. Jay Garrick

Most people don€™t know this, but the Flash we see running around in all those video games and animated TV shows isn€™t the first Flash to have existed. Before Barry Allen was struck by lightning, Jay Garrick had been running around fighting criminals and Nazis as a member of the Justice Society. Once the Silver Age of comics took off, Jay was relegated to Earth Two where many of the other Golden Age heroes lived. Even after the Earths merged in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Jay continued to fight crime, proving that just because you€™re older doesn€™t mean you€™re any less tough. In the New 52, however, Jay has been rebooted as a young man and is back on Earth 2 where he received his powers from the dying Roman god Mercury. Since Barry is the first person to be The Flash in this show, it wouldn€™t make since for Jay to have taken on the identity previously, let alone have superpowers at all. I also don€™t think they should take the New 52 route and make him a young man. Instead, keep Jay as an older man who Barry has known since his childhood, perhaps as a neighbor or family friend. Detective West is meant to act as a surrogate father figure for Barry, but that doesn€™t mean that Jay can€™t still mentor Barry or give him advice every now and again. While Jay may not have been a costumed crime fighter, it might make for an interesting take on the character to have him be a retired police officer. Perhaps he, along with Detective West, inspires Barry to become a forensic investigator and keep investigating his mother€™s death.
