10 Characters The Walking Dead Killed Off At The Wrong Time

Does it even need to be explained? Carl should not of been killed during season eight and really shouldn't have been killed off full stop. For a start, Carl represents the future of the world. A kid who is forced to grow up in the apocalypse, it's a miracle and testament to his own character that he didn't turn evil or lose his mind. He was also Rick's main motivation, alongside Judith, to build a better world.

Furthermore he had a key role to play in the future of the story, arguably more so than ever. After the time-skip in the comics, Carl has developed a sort-of friendship with an imprisoned Negan, he begins dating Lydia which is a major part of the Whisperer conflict and he eventually joins his father in The Commonwealth.

Rather than Carl being the character used for these stories, his role has been divided up and given to characters such as Judith, Henry and Daryl. While there is nothing wrong with remixing things, it makes no sense to kill Carl if the writers were still planning to explore the same stories. A key part of the relationship between Lydia and Carl in the comics is the fact that Lydia doesn't care about his eye-wound due to her upbringing, and this just couldn't be explored with Henry. Furthermore, Negan and Carl have an established history, which Judith is lacking.

He just deserved so much better.
