10 Classic TV Characters Who Weren't Added Until Later Seasons
2. Andy Bernard - The Office
923924Season 3 of The Office featured a sudden influx of new faces due to a company merger, but the only one who would stay until the end of the series was Andy Bernard, one of the series' most iconic characters.
Andy was introduced to the show in the beginning of Season 3, when Jim was briefly working at Dunder Mifflin's Stamford branch. On the surface he's a fun, lovable guy, but he's constantly exposing himself as being extremely insecure and high strung, like when Jim pulls the jello stapler prank and he freaks the hell out.
Ed Helms was only a guest star at first, but he was promoted to a series regular towards the end of the third season, and in Season 6 he was added to the opening credits.
Among his other character quirks, Andy is ridiculously into a cappella, constantly telling us about the group he used to be a part of. He also mentions that Cornell is his alma mater just about any chance he gets. He's a character that naturally annoys Jim, but even funnier is the way he plays off Dwight, like in the episode The Merger when they have a hilariously childish argument over who's No. 3 in the office.
Promoting him to manager after Steve Carell left probably wasn't the best move, but Andy still stands as one of the show's best creations.
