10 Comic Book Characters Who Were Better On TV Than In Movies
9. The Flash
Speaking of characters who weren't given a whole lot to do on the big screen (at least not yet), let's talk about the DC Extended Universe's take on the Flash. (Spoiler: he's not the only example.)
Ezra Miller first brought Scarlet Speedster Barry Allen to the big screen in 2016, briefly appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before making a cameo appearance early in Suicide Squad. Ezra's Flash took on a significantly larger role in 2017's Justice League, and in fact was one of the most consistently entertaining parts of that movie. He still wasn't particularly fleshed out though, mainly being relegated to comic relief. You get the impression the seeds were still being sowed for his eventual solo movie, which has still yet to see the light of day.
Grant Gustin's small screen take on Barry Allen, meanwhile, is almost certainly the definitive live-action take on the character. While not the first actor to don the red suit on television, it's safe to say Gustin has made the role his own, having debuted as Barry in Season 2 of Arrow, before spinning off into a Flash series of his own - which he has carried for six seasons and counting, adapting some iconic Flash stories from the DC comic books along the way.
There's still time for the DCEU to catch up, mind you. But for the time being, The CW is definitely winning the race.
