6. Theon's Fake Escape

Theon Greyjoy should be a more likeable character than he actually is. He might still go on to become a hero - the tail end of season five saw the beginnings of what looks like a spinal regrowth for a character snapping out of his "Reek" waking coma.

Of course, there's one man responsible for Theon's broken spirit, and every viewer hopes that man will end up on the pointy end of the a blade sometime soon: Ramsey Bolton. Theon spends much of the third season as a prisoner in the Dreadfort, physically and psychologically tortured by Roose Bolton's insane son.

Things get weird(er) when Theon actually believes he has escaped. The fake escape is in fact an elaborate ruse by Ramsey, but it's really elaborate. Not only does Ramsey break Theon out of the Dreadfort, but he gives him a horse and even goes as far as killing his own soldiers to keep up the ruse before eventually, of course, Theon ends up back in captivity.

We get that Ramsey wants to break Theon's spirit, but why go to all that trouble? Wasn't fingernail pulling and genital removing enough? Killing a handful of good soldiers for a prank isn't a strategy that makes a lot of sense for a wannabe leader like Ramsey.
