10 Controversies That Rocked Game Of Thrones
1. The Age Issue
In A Song of Ice and Fire, Rob Stark and Jon Snow are 14. Sansa stark is 11, Arya 9, and Bran is 7. Daenerys is 13. Yes, Daenerys, whose brother infamously stated on the show that he'd let Khal Drogo's entire army, and their horses, have their way with her, if only he could get his throne back. That's a bit of a problem, even for HBO.
So here's what the show did: they skirted the issue. How? They cast older in some cases, and then worked hard not to give specifics.
It doesn't always work. Sansa is clearly still a child at the start of the series. When asked by Cersei about becoming a woman, she confesses that she hasn't even had her first period yet. Likewise, Daenerys is positioned as "becoming a woman" and is at best probably about 16 to 18 in the first season, though Emilia Clarke is now 28.
To combat this, the show has allowed characters to age - meaning Rob wasn't really in his mid-teens when he wed. However, age continues to be an issue: Tommen is 7 in the books, and though older on the show, he's still clearly very young when Margaery first seduces him.
