10 Craziest The Simpsons Fan Theories

7. Homer Has Been Trapped In A Coma For Decades

In the first few seasons, the storylines of The Simpsons dealt with topics that were pretty relatable. Bart had to deal with a bully. Marge considered having an affair. Bart went to Hell. Y'know, the usual tropes.

But within a few years, Homer became astronaut, Bart won an elephant, and Homer visited the magical, subterranean land of the jockeys. Now, the most obvious reason why the show upped the absurdity is because it was the easiest way to keep viewers interested.

But there's an alternative explanation. In the episode, So It's Come to This: A Simpsons Clip Show, Homer was left in a coma after a vending machine fell on him. Some viewers believe Homer never woke from his coma, meaning that all future events took place in his head, which is why later episodes are far more surreal and whimsical.

Although the producer, Al Jean, dismissed this theory, there’s another factor that’s worth pointing out. In the episode, Homer the Heretic, God implies Homer will die in six months. Six months later, the episode aired where Homer fell into the coma that he supposedly never woke from.
