Season 5 | Episode 2 Apparently this scene had been discussed for years but always dismissed because CK could never quite work out how to do it. On a routine shop with his girls, Louie starts to feel like he might need to go. The situation gets more desperate as he waits inline at the checkout, abandoning all but half of his shopping to the confusion of the shop assistant. The tension mounts as he throws his shopping in the bin and starts to run, panic etched on the kids' faces. Eventually he comes across a store and desperately asks for the toilet. No deal (the shopkeeper is reluctant to let a random man use his toilet as it happens). The scene reaches it's climax as Louie gives in, engulfed by a total disregard for social protocol. He's 'in a lot of pain' and just wants it to end. He shouts 'don't look at me' and begins to well-up as the girls walk away, screaming for their father. He's gone and there's nothing they can do. Why Could It Only Happen On Louie? Because it's one of the most intense scenes you'll ever witness on TV and it's about 'poo poo'. The audience's stomach is in knots as the suspense is cranked up again and again before the inevitable 'climax'. The scene is really made by Louie's girls, who play it more like a couple of children being forcibly separated from their father in a deleted scene from Schindler's List. Apparently the girls were told to 'pretend its the worst thing that could possibly happen or it won't be funny', and they did pretend, and it was hilarious. It's also notable for the appearance of one of the least helpful, most jaded shopkeepers in America, who has no problem racially insulting little children. Toilet humour combined with Saving Private Ryan. Excellent stuff.
