10 Creepy TV Characters You ACTUALLY Root For
7. Kilgrave (Jessica Jones)
One of the most underrated bad guys in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, David Tennant's Kilgrave was the highlight of the first series of Jessica Jones, with his superpower - the ability to command anyone to do anything - leading to countless inventive sequences of drama and dialogue between him and the title character.
From trapping Jessica in a suburban home to killing his own parents in an act of revenge, Kilgrave was a menace who certainly exploited the full range of his abilities over the course of the show. The thought of encountering him was terrifying because he could make you do absolutely anything and you'd be powerless to resist, and it's no surprise that Jessica was forced to kill him at the end of the first season. His evil simply couldn't be allowed to persist.
But while his powers of persuasion were incredibly useful when it came to causing havoc, they also had a few unfortunate side effects that inspired some feelings of sympathy towards him.
The character states that he's never fully sure whether someone is doing what they want, or what he tells them to, and that he has to choose each and every word he utters with the greatest of care. It's hard not to acknowledge what a nightmare that must be to live with, and while the way he treats Jessica is certainly unforgivable, there's a tragic element to Kilgrave that shines through on certain occasions.
Because of this, it's very easy to root for him when he starts trying to play the hero as the season progresses. You know how effective his powers could be if they were used for good, and Tennant is such a likeable actor that you'll be wanting him to pull through and change his villainous ways.
