The subject of many heated debates within the fandom is the recently popularised sonic screwdriver. In the Classic era it was a rarely used device, and even more rarely needed. Of course, as mentioned previously, episodes are shorter these days, and the sonic screwdriver allows a way for the narrative to move forward without wasting much time. But in many situations the sonic is just used as a multi-tool that does anything without it being mentioned beforehand. Sure, it doesn't work on wood, but it's a rare occasion where the Doctor actually reaches this issue. The sonic is handy for storytelling but generally resolves conflict far too lazily. A way to change this in the future is to have Peter Capaldi's Doctor lose his sonic, either in a battle or by simple personal error. Have him then approach the wardrobe of his TARDIS and pick out an older screwdriver, like the one from the Eccleston/Tennant era (the Doctor admitted to having multiples), thus allowing him to still use the sonic in a good capacity, but less often since it was revealed that that particular sonic used a numbering system (as mentioned in The Doctor Dances) that the Doctor could very well not remember anymore. Therefore, the sonic could be limited in ability but slowly he'll begin to memorise the numbers again, thus allowing it to become more useful over time. So there you are ladies, gentlemen and variations thereupon. Ten issues with Doctor Who, as well as solutions for each. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree?
