10 Current Doctor Who Problems And How To Fix Them

10. A Pointless Sentence Is Always Important Later

This isn't a commonly mentioned problem with Doctor Who, hence why it's first on the list. But it's a silent issue that's been plaguing the programme lately. Commonly in the show, a character will mention something offhandedly, usually without having any reason to bring it up in the conversation, and the information they give out becomes useful to the Doctor later on in the episode, regardless of how unnecessary it initially sounded. In the episode In the Forest of the Night, for example, the character Maebh Arden is mentioned to occasionally hear voices and that it's likely a form of psychosis brought on by her sibling's disappearance. This later became vital to the plot when it was revealed that she was actually psychically connected to the Earth's trees. Events like these are not uncommon in general storytelling but it'd be much more effective if there was deeper character development that didn't prove to be necessary to push the story forward, maybe instead have Maebh just have her disorder and have her sister appear living in this newly grown forest, able to communicate with the agriculture instead of her younger sibling. You know, something that would've made sense.
