10 Current Doctor Who Problems And How To Fix Them
7. The Daleks Are Boring
A subject often brought up in recent years is the Daleks, and how not many people feel frightened of them anymore. In all honesty the Daleks haven't been seen as scary for a long time, often being the butt of jokes in productions such as Looney Tunes, Robot Chicken and even a Futurama comic back in 2007. Along with this, a complaint that often coincides with the previous one mentioned is that the Daleks are being overused, appearing so often in the programme that many fans have fallen under the assumption that the BBC are doing it in order to retain the rights to the species. A fix for this is a little bit more difficult and thus a more detailed example is required. Have an episode occur in Series 9 or 10 wherein the Daleks are finally eliminated because of the events that were set in motion in Into the Dalek, then have complete silence about them for a few years before bringing them back full force in a mysterious way with minor tweaks in design, perhaps removing the plunger and replacing it with the alternative appendage seen in The Parting of the Ways. If the Doctor asks how they're still alive, have them reply that they truly don't know why. This would be the perfect setup for a new story arc, perhaps one that leads to other dead species coming back, culminating in an all out war between them, which the Doctor could return to from time to time for new episodes, running across survivors, landing in between small skirmishes that he decides to resolve, etc. The possibilities are endless.
