6. An Inconsistent Mythology
Usually in comic books, fans get annoyed at the constant retcons, bringing characters back from the dead, and the repetition of storylines just so the company can make their product quickly enough to still rake in money. All this can also be said about Doctor Who, too, as throughout the show's 51 year old history, plenty has been rehashed, and plenty of the previous history is discarded. Even without bringing consideration towards the extended Whoniverse, plenty of events overlap or contradict. This can be kept away from, and has been avoided in the past. In Series 7 of Doctor Who, an episode was supposed to revolve around the assassination of the late president John F. Kennedy. The episode was discarded, partly due to the fact that the revived show's initial episode featured the Ninth Doctor being present at the shocking event. A simple way to avoid mistakes like this is to have the writers do some homework on the programme's history. If the script includes a reference to Atlantis, check to see if the underwater utopia has been featured before (which it has).
