10 Current TV Dramas That Show This Is A Golden Era
8. Hannibal
Based on the novel and subsequent film, Red Dragon, Hannibal focuses on the growing relationship between FBI investigator Will Graham and Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a forensic psychiatrist with cannibalistic tendencies. When eight young girls disappear from the same area, it is Graham that is assigned to the case with Hannibal as his supervisor, who unbeknownst to the rest of his colleagues is actually the Chesapeake Ripper, a serial killer who removes his victim's organs. As far as prequels go, Hannibal has got off to a flying start with enormous praise going to the three lead actors, Hugh Dancy, Mads Mikkelson and Laurence Fishburne, as well as many favourable reviews for the writing. Before its first appearance on our screens, many critics were somewhat wary of the amount of gore that would be shown on screen, however since its release, it has been said that although Hannibal is extremely gory and gruesome at times, this does not detract from the haunting look at the mind and psychiatry that is at the core of the show. Obviously, as a prequel to the Hannibal film, the show has been plagued by many saying that it couldn't possibly live up to its predecessor's success, however television ratings for the show have proven this to not be the case. And, thanks to the acting prowess of its lead trio, the show looks like it's going to be sticking around as a great, current drama.
