10 Current TV Dramas That Show This Is A Golden Era
7. Scandal
Created by the producer of Grey's Anatomy, Scandal is loosely based on Judy Smith, the former administration press aide of George Bush and her work in crisis management. Played by Kerry Washington, the show focuses on Olivia Pope who has recently started her own crisis management firm in order to protect the public image of those who need her services, yet struggles to escape her past, especially her relationship with the president of the United States. Although, at first the show is complicated and at times difficult to follow, as season one progressed, the show received excellent critical reception, with one critic even stating that at a time when a lot of T.V. ratings were declining, Scandal's was one of the only ones to be increasing. However, due to Rimes' past experiences with shows such as Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, some critics had complained that the show was predictable and had fallen into many of the traps that "soap dramas" often are so susceptible to. Yet, as the show gained more viewers, Scandal became less of a regular drama and turned more into a political show, exploring aspects of politics such as vote rigging and even an attempt at assassinating the president of the United States, a storyline which may seem somewhat ridiculous but had Scandal's viewers wanting more. Perhaps the show is a little exaggerated or at times totally implausible but it would seem that this is what attracts the viewers making Scandal a perfect example of a show that makes this a golden era for drama.
