--> If there was an award for causing offence, Chris Morris would certainly be one of the front-runners. He's never been one to shy away from difficult subject matter, in fact he tackles it head on and the most classic example of this is his news satire, Brass Eye. Covering topics from drug abuse to paedophilia, Morris made headlines as people were outraged by what they had watched (many who spoke out had never seen the offending episode) giving him some great publicity for the show. Brass Eye is my number one because of this bravery, its ability to tackle such dark subject matter and turn it into a razor sharp comedy. Morris has gone on to do other projects the most notable being the film Four Lions, poking fun at home-grown extremists but it's this show that will remain my favourite of all his offerings. There are only seven episodes of Brass Eye; the first six were broadcast in 1997 and the 'Paedogeddon' special in 2001. It's a show I can go back to repeatedly and it still has some resonance now when watched alongside some fear mongering news broadcasts. Do yourself a favour, get over to YouTube (between WhatCulture articles of course) and watch them through, it's British satire at its best. Are you a fan of dark comedy?
