10 Dark British Comedy TV Shows That Must Be Seen

6. A Touch Of Cloth

Lampooning detective dramas with a rapid fire joke delivery in the style of €˜Airplane!€™, A Touch of Cloth is hilarious from start to finish. Starring the always enjoyable John Hannah as Jack Cloth, a troubled yet brilliant detective, the show casts a judgmental eye over the tropes of the crime genre. It€™s merciless in its parody and enters pretty dark territory at times but that€™s what makes it entertaining.

Whether they€™re tracking down a murderer or simply walking down the street there€™s a joke to be found somewhere. Every line is crafted with care as either a set up or a punch line, it€™s amazing that they were able to keep the narrative coherent as it€™s revealed almost exclusively through jokes. Sight gags, puns, slapstick it€™s all fair game in A Touch of Cloth and thankfully it hits the mark more often than not.

Written and created by the master of all things snarky, Charlie Brooker, the show was always going to be a biting satire and sure enough, it didn€™t disappoint. Currently there are only a couple of two episode series out so it€™s easy enough to get caught up before it returns next year.
