10 Darkest Alternate Timelines In Doctor Who

3. Earth Is Swallowed By The Eye Of Harmony (The TV Movie)

Just like the Daleks, the Master is always trying to conquer the Earth. The tyrant doesn't really care for humanity in the same way the Doctor does, viewing us as inferior, disposable creatures that are simply a means to an end.

In the 1996 TV Movie, the Master's latest evil scheme gives us a quick glimpse of a possible timeline in which the entire planet is swallowed by the Eye Of Harmony - which is basically the TARDIS' power source.

Earlier in the story, the Doctor worriedly informs Grace that, if the Eye isn't closed, then the Earth will be "sucked through it" - and that's exactly what happens during the climactic showdown between the Doctor and the Master.

Here, we're shown various Earth landmarks being swallowed into the sky, including Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower, and the Statue Of Liberty. That's one way to defeat a giant Weeping Angel!

Fortunately though, this entire event is later undone when time is reversed, and, as an added bonus, it's actually the Master who ends up being gobbled by the Eye. Serves the bugger right.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for over ten years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. In 2022, he took charge of WhoCulture and has grown it into the biggest Doctor Who channel on YouTube, and one of the biggest Doctor Who communities on the web full-stop. He has been writing and video editing since his early teens, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers, off the back of a burning obsession with the Matt Smith era of the show. Like many his age, he first got into Doctor Who with the 2005 revival, but has since gone back and fallen in love with the classic years too. If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order, or to give you a random factoid about the making of Gridlock, Danny is the person to ask!
