10 Darkest Endings In Doctor Who

1. Human Nature/Family of Blood (2007)

The Tenth Doctor and his companion Martha Jones are forced to hide at a boys’ school in 1913 England to escape the clutches of The Family of Blood, a group of four carnivorous body snatchers. They want to steal the Doctor’s lifeforce so they can live forever, and the Doctor has turned himself into a regular human, John Smith, to escape their keen senses of smell. Only Martha still knows who he really is.

It’s not long before the Family track them down and force the Doctor to change back after attacking the school. After he’s done foiling their plans, the Doctor grants the Family exactly what they wanted: immortality. He traps the father in unbreakable chains in the heart of a dwarf star, sends the mother into the event horizon of a collapsing black hole, condemns the daughter to a lifetime of imprisonment in every single mirror, and freezes the son in time before dressing him in a scarecrow outfit and leaving him to watch over a cold, empty field.

This is arguably the worst punishment ever doled out by the Doctor for a villain in the new or classic series. The Family were a gang of evil lunatics, but surely even they didn’t deserve such a cruel end.
