10 Darkest Rick And Morty Moments

8. Morty Has To Bury Himself

Mr. Jelly Bean
Adult Swim

In season one's Rick Potion #9, when Morty craves the love and attention of Jessica, he gets Rick to make the titular love potion. However, instead of simply forcing his crush into an infatuation with him, Morty finds that Jessica's obsession is unhealthy, and that she would kill anyone to be with him.

After the condition combines with the flu going round, soon the entire world is obsessed with Morty, killing everyone around them to get to Rick's grandson first. Unfortunately, the Praying Mantis DNA based antidote Rick makes doesn't help, simply turning everyone into human/mantis abominations.

Another ill conceived 'antidote' later, and every single human in the world is turned into a cronenberg monster. The only solution for this Rick and Morty is to find an alternative universe where the crisis was averted, but where the titular two were also killed shortly after.

Our Rick and Morty arrive in the alternate Smith family garage to see their own bloody corpses lying in front of them. They can simply slip into their place without anyone knowing the difference, but the worst part of it all is that to hide the evidence, Morty has to bury his own dead body in the back yard. It's hard to decide what's more haunting - Morty's pure shock at the events, or Rick's indifference.
