10 Darkest Rick And Morty Moments

5. Morty Returns To His Original Universe

Mr. Jelly Bean
Adult Swim

After Rick turns himself in to the Galactic Federation to save his family, the world is turned upside down. Beth resents and hates Rick for leaving again, Jerry is successful at work, and Summer goes slightly crazy trying to find something her grandpa left behind to fix everything.

While Summer is struggling to face the new reality the Smiths live in, certain that having Rick with them would help solve the problem, Morty decides to give her a few home truths about their grandpa. Namely, that he doesn't care about anyone or anything, and that they are better off without.

Summer takes this completely the wrong way, and digs up Rick's rotted corpse in the back yard and takes his portal gun. Since the message clearly isn't getting to his sister, Morty decides to take her to his old universe, to see the damage and destruction Rick leaves behind.

The universe that was destroyed by Rick's love potion is now completely desolate, with the Smiths having to hunt down the monsters their Rick made in order to survive. Morty and Summer's grandpa was responsible for destroying a whole world and the entire population within, including his own true family, and left it behind to die without a care in the world.
