10 Darkest Rick And Morty Moments

4. Rick Tries To Kill Himself

There aren't many people in his life that Rick Sanchez emotionally attaches himself to. There's Beth, Birdperson, and occasionally Morty. Other than that, the self proclaimed smartest man in the universe finds little value in sentiment and human bonding. There was however, one other exception.

Rick used to date a being called Unity, a single minded entity bent on assimilating the entire universe into its own conscience. Way back when it was just the size of a small town, but when Rick reconnects in season two, Unity has taken over the minds of an entire planet.

After a whirlwind weekend of sex and drugs, with Rick ready to give up his entire life and family to be with Unity, he was left behind. As he went to the bathroom, Unity abandoned Rick with the now empty planet, completely alone and never to see it again.

Rick took the break up incredibly badly, spiraling into depression and even suicidal thoughts. Such was the devastation left behind by Unity, the scientist took to his garage to end his life. Though his plan was to essentially incinerate his head, he passed out just a split second before succeeding. Maybe Rick Sanchez does have a heart after all, broken by Unity.
