10 Deadliest Doctor Who Villains

8. Sontarans

Menagerie of Doctor Who Villains
BBC

Sontarans are some of the oldest villains to appear on the series, as they popped up in 1973, and have been a major player on the show ever since. They are a race of cloned humanoids who love nothing more than the destruction of their enemies or to experience death at their hands.

Essentially, a Sontaran is little more than a soldier who will either kill or die for the cause — whatever that cause might be. Sontarans will completely annihilate a species if they decide they need to be in conflict with them, and they have set their sights on Earth many times.

In a recent story, they opted to convert the atmosphere of Earth to their liking, and doing so would have wiped out almost all life on Earth. Fortunately, the Doctor found a way to stop them, but it was a close call in the end.

While they're easy to hate as villains, one of the best characters in the series, Strax, was a Sontaran and member of the Paternoster Gang. He was forced to serve as a nurse, having to heal the injured as punishment for being defeated by the Doctor. He's hilarious and attacks every situation with a warrior's resolve.
